Lou or Louie as he is called, does a lot of driveways in Woostock and Cambridge.
**BEFORE YOU SIGN ON THE DOTTED LINE, PLEASE TAKE A GOOD LOOK AT MY DRIVEWAY**
We had our driveway and walkway installed by Lou in October of 2010. He did the worst job I've ever seen on concrete. The walkway to our front porch is on such and angle it looks like it's a ramp. The driveway already has a large hunk out of it in an area close to the house. He was supposed to put 2 coats of a sealer on the outer edging but only put one coat and now that its all wearing away it looks horrible. The worst part of my driveway is the pitting. It started off small but now it's a mess. We called Lou several times and he kept promising to take a look at it but never showed up. He kept saying that it was LaFarge's fault for not mixing it properly. I finally called LaFarge myself and talked to Ken who came to the house to take a look. Just so happens that while he was talking to my husband, Lou showed up. In front of Lou, Ken told my husband that the problem with the concrete is not LaFarge's fault but Lou's fault. He said that the driveway was done too late in the year and probably froze. In front of Ken, Lou said he would have LaFarge come out and dig out the concrete and redo it. Of course, that didn't happen. 2 or 3 days later Lou showed up at the door and started telling my husband off for 'going above his head'. My husband called him many times and he would always get his voice mail. Of course he never returned any of the calls. He finally got ahold of Lou and we were asked if we would agree to him giving us the money we paid for the concrete and he would repair the area where the chunk is out, redo my walkway and seal the driveway so that it didn't get worse. We agreed to that however getting Lou to come back and do it was another story. He was supposed to come to our house a week ago but didn't show and didn't call. He told my husband the week before, that he was going to have his lawyer draw up papers for us to sign agreeing to the settlements and he would be at our house on the Monday. Of course he didn't come again. I called him that evening and left a message on his voice mail asking him to call me back letting him know that I wasn't at all impressed that he didn't show up. Within seconds, he called me back. Said he couldn't get to the phone? He said that he would be at our house the following day between noon and 1pm. He was a 'no show' again. He called later that and left us a message that he would be back in Woodstock Monday (today). He showed up this morning with no legal paperwork and said he'd give us $1500. My husband mentioned to him that he had originally offered the cost of the concrete and supplies which is around $2000 and Lou got upset. My husband said we'd take him to court he told him he's see us in court. This guy has terrible work and business ethics. Be very very careful when dealing with him.
Also, he expects payment up front in cash. His receipts are supposed to show his HST# but they don't. That should have been a sign for us right away.
